Craven House Stables

Having enjoyed several successful years at Saffron House Stables George’s training operation continued to grow and when the opportunity presented itself, in January 2025 he completed the purchase of Craven House Stables on the Hamilton Road in Newmarket.

Originally built as separate yards in the 1960s, Craven House and Shadowfax Stables have been operated in conjunction since 2005 and are now combined as home to George Boughey Racing. Standing on close to 6 acres with over 100 licenced boxes, Craven House Stables boasts impressive training facilities including a large all-weather trotting ring, 4 horse walkers, turnout paddocks, equine spa and direct access onto the gallops. The newly upgraded office building now comprises a large owners facility with panoramic views of the yard as well as generous working office space.

"Craven House Stables works really well for us - it enables us to train horses on both sides of town and I don't like to over-complicate things."

Training grounds

Ideally situated on the Hamilton Road, Craven House Stables backs directly onto Hamilton Hill Canter with Newmarket’s Racecourse Side training grounds just a few minutes walk away. The Bury Side facilities and Warren Hill are also easily accessible via a network of horse-walks across the town.

The extensive training facilities in Newmarket are owned and managed by Jockey Club Estates and offer an unrivalled variety of turf and artificial gallops which cater for racehorses at all stages of their career. Spanning 2,500 acres, the grounds are open year-round and are carefully maintained by a skilled team of Heathmen.
